The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning regarding an ongoing jury duty scam in the area. Callers in the area are posing as members of the sheriff’s office and are informing residents that they need to resolve court and jury-related issues immediately.

The reason for the scam is to try and extort money out of residents who happen to be riled up by the message these scammers are leaving. If you have received any phone calls regarding jury duty, court offenses, or warrants from the Middlesex sheriff’s office, then please make sure that they are legitimate before sending anyone any money.

“Nationwide, these scammers are attempting to use the criminal justice system and the threat of arrest as a tool to frighten people into paying large sums of money. We want residents to be aware of these scams and these tactics in order to better protect themselves.” – Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian
